Christophe Laporte

Born on December 11, 1992 on the southern coast of France in La Seyne-sur-Mer, Christophe Laporte has raced competitively since 2010 when he first competed in the road race nationals as a junior. He then competed for the next four years on club teams to get noticed by Cofidis, where he raced his first eight years as a professional. 

At the French team, which moved up to the WorldTour ranks in 2020, he won a number of races to confirm he had a fast finish and ability in the Classics. In 2015 in his second year with Cofidis, he had podiums at Le Samyn and Grand Prix de Wallonie, a stage top 10 in his first Tour de France and a victory in October at tour de Vendée. He had six top 10s on stages at the 2016 Tour de France and then won a second GP de Wallonie in 2017.

2018 marked a turn for Laporte as he enjoyed a progression of podiums and victories - stage wins at Etoile de Bessèges, Tour International La Provence, Baloise Belgium Tour, Tour de Luxembourg as well as a one-day victory at Tro-Bro Léon. He was fourth at Tour of Flanders and finished second on stage 18 to Pau at the Tour de France.

The next season was full of ups and downs, beginning with two stage wins and the overall title at Etoile de Bessèges. Among his nine victories were the prologue and stage 1 of Tour de Luxembourg but while in the race lead on stage 3 Laporte abandoned due to illness. He later had to pull out of the Tour late in the first week. By August he was healthy again and won a trio of stages and the GC back on home soil at Tour Poitou-Charentes en Nouvelle Aquitaine.

After going through 2020 without a victory, he rebounded in 2021 with a points classification win at Etoile de Bessèges, a win at Circuit de Wallonie in the spring, a win at Grand Prix de Wallonie in the fall, plus a runner-up at Tour of Flanders and second on stage 19 at the Tour.

The Frenchman moved to Jumbo-Visma at the start of 2022 and enjoyed his best two seasons in the peloton to date. He had a stage win at Paris-Nice, which led to his maiden stage victory at the Tour de France. He also won E3 Saxo Bank and took a silver medal at the Wollongong Worlds in the road race in 2022.  

He continued to thrive with Jumbo-Visma in 2023, earning back-to-back wins at Gent Wevelgem and Tour of Flanders in the spring. At Gent-Wevelgem, he crossed the line for the win alongside teammate Wout van Aert across a rain-soaked 260km performance. He won a pair of stages at Critérioum du Dauphiné and completed another Tour de France, riding in support of two-time champion and teammate Jonas Vingegaard. The French sprinter went on to five top 10s in fall one-day races, winning a European Champions road race.

In his third season with Visma-Lease a Bike in 2024, LaPorte secured the bronze medal in the elite men's road race, behind Belgium's Remco Evenepoel and compatriot Valentin Madouas, at the Olympic Games in Paris, giving France two medals. He capped off his season with a win at the Paris-Tours Elite.
