Francisco Campos (Tavira-Crédito Agrícola) claimed the stage 1 victory at the Volta a Portugal em Bicicleta after a hilly race into Sintra. Campos was the fastest across the line, beating runner-up Daniel Cavia (Burgos Burpellet BH) and third-placed Carlos Miguel Salgueiro, making it two on the podium for Tavira-Crédito Agrícola.

The trio finished just two seconds ahead of the main field, led across the line by Rui Oliveira (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), who has moved into the overall race lead three seconds ahead of Rafael Reis (Anicolor-Campicarn) and seven seconds ahead of Carlos Miguel Salgueiro.
