26 year-old Veronica Andreasson (Bigla Cycling Team) was hit by car while cycling from her home in Uppsala to the Swedish TT championships in Uppsala Wednesday. Andreasson was unconscious when she was taken the Academic Hospital in Uppsala. Reports says she was still unconscious Wednesday evening, and her condition is described as serious but stable.
The accident happened at a crossing with traffic lights, and according to police the lights were changing when Andreasson was hit by the car. Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet quotes Uppsala police man Per-Erik Eriksson as saying, "The driver of the car claims it was green, but we haven't had a chance to talk to all witnesses yet, so we cannot say anything for sure."
Andreasson came in second place in last years' Swedish time trial championship behind Susanne Ljungskog.
