Festka Spectre review: A custom carbon bike from Czechia

Custom designs, wild paint jobs, and a carbon manufacturing process borrowed from white water rafting

Cyclingnews Verdict

While Festka is often associated with wild paint schemes, this isn't a fashion brand. Under those wild paint schemes is a high performance bike with a unique carbon construction. The new Festka Spectra is an all-around race bike with a focus on comfort but as with most custom bikes, there's more to it than pure performance.

Earlier this summer I had the opportunity to fly into Prague and explore the Czech Republic before riding to Vienna. I could have brought any number of bikes from our list of the best road bikes but I wanted something different. Instead of bringing an American, Italian, or British bike across the world, I wanted to share the experience of riding a local bike.

Design and aestheticsFestka is known for unbelievable paint but this bike didn’t have that. The paint/gold leaf that was there wasn’t my favourite. The carbon that was on display though was a thing of beauty. 9/10
BuildAs discussed this is a custom bike. If I was speccing it though, I would have leaned further into function with wider gearing, better brakes, and tubeless wheels. 7/10
PerformanceAs much as I loved riding this bike, it’s not the lightest or the most aero. Where it shines is power transfer and comfort. This is an great bike but there are better performance options. 8/10
WeightThis build is light but that's only achieved due to some seriously premium weightweenie kit from Schmolke and Lightweight. The bottom line is that a 1035 gram carbon frame is heavy. 6/10
ValueValue isn’t only about price. In the world of custom bikes this is a high value option that offers an opportunity to build a unique bike exactly how you want for almost the same price as the big name brands. 10/10
