Eneco Tour 2015
This season sees the 11th edition of the Eneco Tour, after the cross-border race was inaugurated in 2005. The young Tim Wellens (Lotto-Soudal) is the defending champion this season after a hugely impressive solo victory in Aywaille on the penultimate day of racing.
Once again apart of the WorldTour series, the Eneco Tour begins with an out and back sprint stage in Bolsward, in the north of the Netherlands on Monday 10 August. Tom Boonen (Etixx-QuickStep), Moreno Hofland (LottoNL-Jumbo) and Elia Viviani (Team Sky) will all by vying for victory here.
In fact it will be all for the sprinters until the stage 4 time trial in Hoogerheide. The 14-kilometre test will give the likes of Niki Terpstra (Etixx-QuickStep) and Wilco Kelderman (LottoNL-Jumbo) a chance to lay the foundations for a bid on the overall title. It is then that the hellingen arrive with 27 hills in the 179.6km between Riemst, Belgium and Sittard-Geelen, Netherlands.
The theme continues through the final two stages with the Côte Saint-Roch, of Liège-Bastogne-Liège fame, appearing on stage 6. At 206.6 kilometres, the penultimate stage also happens to be the longest. The final day of racing keeps the peloton entirely in Belgium, leaving St.Pieters-Leeuw and heading east for Geraardsbergen. Along with the 18 climbs, including two ascents of the Muur van Geraardsbergen, there are six sections on pavé to contend with, making for an exciting finale to the race.
