Shortened to just two stages, the Vuelta Ciclista a Murcia will be hoping to retain some form of its former grandeur with an opening day road thriller to Sierra de Espuña before the traditional time trial finale in Murcia.
No Alberto Contador means the race will also be without its defending champion, though Saxo Bank will be keen to keep the title within the team, particularly with the hunt for points more critical than ever.
