Biography:

Laurens De Plus began his professional cycling career with the Quickstep team in 2016 but had his budding career shattered by terrible luck. In 2017, he was one of several riders to crash on a bend on the descent of the Sormano during Il Lombardia and plunge into the ravine, fracturing his knee. After spending the off-season recovering from that injury, he was training in South Africa with teammates Bob Jungels and Petr Vakoč when the a passing truck hit the group. He fractured his pelvis and sacrum in that incident.

De Plus signed with Jumbo-Visma in 2019 and won a stage of the UAE Tour, the overall BinckBank tour, was part of the team's winning TTT at the Tour de France. He then moved to Ineos Grenadiers in 2020 to seek his own ambitions. But while he was racing the UAE Tour, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and De Plus didn't race until September, taking part in just three races before ending his season.

In 2021, De Plus sat out the Tour de France due to overtraining, then was sidelined with a viral illness. He came back in 2022 and raced a full season as a domestique. In 2023, he was on the team to support Tao Geoghegan Hart at the Giro d'Italia but the Briton crashed out, and De Plus became the team's protected rider, eventually finishing 10th. His season ended with a broken hip sustained in a crash during the rainy opening stage team time trial at the Vuelta a España. He renewed with Ineos through 2026.
