Nishi wins women's road race
The Japanese elite road national championships were run under sunny skies, despite the predicted heavy rains, with temperatures at 28 degrees. The elite men's race, held in Hiroshima Central Forest Park, was a well-fought battle with numerous attacks on the undulating and twisting course.
Taiji Nishitani of the Aisan Racing Team took the sprint ahead of a small bunch that included European-based professionals Takashi Miyazawa (Amica Chips), Yukiya Arashiro (Bbox Bouygues Telecom) and Yukihiro Doi (Skil-Shimano).
The men raced 16 laps of a 12.3km course for a 196.8km race.
Kanako Nishi won the women's road race.
