DMT has raised the bar with its new IAAN gravel shoe
The IAAN shoes have a host of high-end technical features
The new IAAN gravel shoe from DMT has launched and slots into the Italian brand’s range as its flagship gravel model.
The IAAN is a shoe that will appeal to a huge range of gravel riders and applications. Whether it’s a flat-out dusty gravel race or a muddy weekend social. The IAAN employs high-end technical features and comes from a brand with a rich cycling heritage that celebrates each cyclist's passion.
The IAAN is a light, sleek and stylish gravel shoe that’s available in two colours: Sand and Lilac. The shoes are built from the ground up around a brand-new sole, and have a reinforced toe box for off-road protection. There’s a single Boa Li2 closure dial and asymmetric lace routing for a comfortable foot hold.
The new mesh used by DMT for the shoe's upper is a key feature of the shoe's design and aims to provide riders and racers with an automatic aerodynamic advantage. The IAAM is a bold new addition to the DMT gravel range.
The IAAN is a flagship gravel shoe that will provide fantastic gravel performance for a wide range of riders.
The shoes' uppers feature a new high-performance mesh with a hexagonal design that is intended to provide a key performance advantage. The mesh shaping uses Dimple Tech aerodynamic principles to boost the shoes' aero performance.
The Dimple Tech concept gives the shoes' upper a microstructured surface instead of a flat, smooth one. Air passing over the shoes' upper will be encouraged to stick to it for a longer amount of time instead of breaking away quickly, which can create extra resistance or ‘wake’.
The shoe mesh should help provide riders with a small aero advantage that will add up over the course of a ride, saving time and energy whilst also looking great.
The Dimple Tech logo on the shoes' front highlights the technology, and the special hexagonal mesh creates a more aerodynamic shoe for the wearer.
The IAAN shoes have a brand-new sole which uses optimised tread block positioning as well as a softer compound to improve traction and walkability, a key consideration for gravel riding, whether you are dismounting to carry your bike over an obstacle or for walking in at the cafe or bar.
The sole uses a two-bolt cleat mounting, and the cleat position is adjustable to give each rider their optimal fit.
At the front of the shoes, the sole meets the toe box area, which has been reinforced to provide more off-road protection from rock strikes and other off-road challenges. Shoe closure and foot retention are handled by the Boa Li2 Dial; the Boa wire is routed via an asymmetric layout to provide excellent foot retention as well as a comfortable hold.
Another design concept for the shoes was ‘In every condition’, which is represented by the three faces that can be found on the outside heel of each shoe.
The different facial expressions represent a rider's emotions and how they can change between rides. They will also make for an excellent talking point at the cafe or at the end of the ride when another rider asks you about their meaning.
Riding and weather conditions can contribute to these changes, as well as our own internal feelings and thoughts. The faces represent a marriage of all of these factors, both internal and external. This blend of functionality and emotion represents a deep understanding of what all cyclists and gravel riders feel whilst riding.
The concept shows DMT’s understanding that a rider never feels more alive than when they are out on a beautiful bike ride.
