Rigoberto Urán

Rigoberto Urán, born in Urrao, Colombia on January 26, 1987, turned professional with Tenax in 2006 starting a career journey which has seen him stand on Grand Tour podiums and take 14 victories including stages of the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a España.

Along the way, Urán has raced for Unibet.com, Caisse d'Epargne, Sky, QuickStep, and his current team, EF Education-EasyPost, which he joined in 2016. His best career Grand Tour result came with the team in their then-green-coloured kit as Cannondale, when he took second place behind Chris Froome at the 2017 Tour de France. He also has second places at the 2013 and 2014 Giro d'Italia to his name, the trio of podiums among 10 top-10 finishes at the three Grand Tours.

Urán has been a consistent presence at the week-long stage races that run throughout the season, too, scoring podiums at races including Tirreno-Adriatico, Volta a Catalunya, and the Tour de Suisse, and he's also been a major contender at – and winner of – one-day races around the world. He has three podiums at Il Lombardia and a fifth place at Liège-Bastogne-Liège to his name, as well as wins at the GP de Québec, Gran Piemonte, and Milano-Torino.

Those wins stand proudly on his palmarès alongside the biggest of his career – those stages at the Giro, Tour, and Vuelta. He won with a 7.5km solo mountain raid at Altopiano del Montasio en route to second at the 2013 Giro, while the next year saw him race into the maglia rosa with a scorching time trial in Barolo before eventually ceding the GC lead to fellow Colombian Nairo Quintana in the Alps. Three years later, he was the best of a select group including Chris Froome and Romain Bardet at the Tour de France in Chambéry. His Grand Tour stage set was completed as he won from the breakaway in the mountains of the 2022 Vuelta at the Monasterio de Tentudía.
