Crescent Vårgårda Women's WorldTour - Overview

Emilia Fahlin (Ale Cipollini) sprinted to the win Sunday during Crescent Vargarda, the 15th round of the Women's World Tour. The 27-year-old Swedish rider claimed the win in her home country after making it into a nine-rider move that escaped on a dirt section late in the race, then outsprinted Lotta Lepistö (Cervelo Bigla) and Chantal Blaak (Boels Dolmans) at the line.

What were one-day races on the World Cup in 2015, Sweden’s Crescent Vargarda’s team time trial and road race were now positioned as the 14th and 15th rounds of the new Women’s WorldTour held on August 19 and 21, respectively.

Defending champion from Belgium, Jolien D'hoore, was not participating in this year’s road race as she has focused much of her season on securing a medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She captured a bronze medal in the women’s Omnium on Tuesday, but that left her little time to travel back to Sweden to contest the WorldTour events with her trade team Wiggle High5.

Sunday’s 141km road race was revised from previous years to include four 11km laps. The field will then complete a longer lap of 55 km, containing four short dirt road sectors before finishing with five more 11 km laps.
