Fabian Cancellara has started to make a habit of his more-than-cameo appearances at cycling's Grand Tours. His time trial prowess has, in the past, secured the 28-year-old ownership of the leader's jersey for periods of both the Tour de France and Vuelta a España.
The opening eight days of this year's Vuelta proved no exception to the Saxo Bank rider's apparent rule. A blistering performance in the race's prologue saw him claim the Gold jersey for the second time in his career. He lost it on stage five, but grabbed it back after yet another dominant display in the stage seven time trial in Valencia.
