Starting from the ancient town of Tivoli, 30 kilometres east of Rome, Stage 5 heads due east through the climbs of Monti Sabini before ascending the tough 21-kilometre long Monte Terminillo at mid-stage. A break of opportunists will certainly hit out towards Spoleto, site of a world famous opera festival every summer, and with two more climbs on the way, look for changes in the Giro's hierarchy that evening.
