Refocused and ready to ride
The British squad took a knock in confidence during its debut season and goes into 2011 with broader ambitions than just a strong Tour. Three riders have left and seven brought in, including Colombian Rigoberto Uran and Alex Dowsett. Bradley Wiggins’s big goal remains the Tour de France but if he isn’t firing then newcomer Michael Rogers is a sound replacement.
Edvald Boasson Hagen’s 2010 season was derailed by injury, but he still won seven races and the Norwegian time trial championship. 2011 could be the year the 23-year-old realises his potential. Simon Gerrans will be in the mix for stage wins, Thomas Löfkvist adds depth to stage race line-ups and Geraint Thomas will be in with a shout in prologues. The team is so packed with time triallists that races against the clock should be a happy hunting ground for Sky.
