2002 Australian National Track Cycling Championships

Dunc Gray Velodrome, Australia, April 17 - 21, 2002

Day 2: A better day for Tasmania and Victoria

On the second day of the Australian track nationals, the big man from NSW, Sean Eadie, set the fastest time in the men's sprint qualifying but faces strong competition going into the finals from Shaun Hopkins, among others.

In the Under 19 men's 1km time trial Mark French (VIC) took the honours from Wade Cosgrove (QLD) and Bradley Norton (VIC).

Fastest in the Women's under 19 pursuit qualifiers was Belinda Goss (TAS), and the Taswegian stayed in front for round two and the finals, beating Alexis Rhodes (SA) in the ride for gold.

One of the high points of the evening session was a thrilling U19 15km scratch, with Matt Farmer (NSW) taking the title ahead of Abram Manion (TAS) and Luke Wright (SA).

Kerrie Meares (QLD) continued the sunshine state's run of success at these nationals by taking out the women's sprint. Roseallee Hubbard (SA) took silver and the other Meares sister, Anna, the bronze.

The night's final race saw Rochelle Gilmore totally dominate the Women's 25km points, winning sprint after sprint in an awesome display of strength.
