No surprise here as we have been using this AFP photo at the top of our Photos page for months. Without a doubt it's a stunning image, embodying everything that's central to racing in Northern Europe: foul conditions (even in August!) and hard racers battling it out right to the line.
Crummy conditions seem to appeal to you, as the number two choice is a shot from the Vuelta of riders snaking across a bridge in the rain, while there was no shortage of pictures from Paris-Roubaix further down the rankings.A surprise third, though, was the image of the victory celebrations at the Little 500 - not a technically great image but one that perfectly captured the joy of winning.
