The curse of the rainbow jersey that hampers the world road champion every year has no equivalent in cyclo-cross, it seems. Despite having to wear a white skinsuit for the season, world champion Bart Wellens has hardly put a wheel wrong in the last few months, with three Superprestige series wins out of four and second places in two World Cups.
A close second behind Wellens is the only rider who seems to be able to put him under pressure at the moment, Sven Nijs. Niijs has handed out Wellens' only major defeats of the year so far, and is on track for a World Cup series victory. The world championships in February should be a ding-dong battle between these two!
