The Six Days of Ghent has finally started to take shape after four nights of racing, although still only two 166m laps separate the top six teams from one another. In command at the end of Day 4 are Swiss pair Bruno Risi/Kurt Betschart, who also held the lead on Day 2. They lead crowd favourite Matthew Gilmore and Brad Wiggins by 11 points, with both teams on the same lap. In third place a lap behind, although close to taking a bonus lap, are Italians Silvio Martinello/Marco Villa on 192 points. Yesterday's leaders Jimmi Madsen/Marty Nothstein suffered a bit tonight and have fallen to fifth place at 2 laps down, although they have still amassed the most points of any team.

There were four derny races this evening, won by Iljo Keisse, Bruno Risi, Jimmi Madsen, and Gerd Dörich. Madsen and Nothstein combined well to win the time trials (166m and 500m), helping their points total along. However the Swiss pair Betschart/Risi shone in the elimination and the two madisons, consistently placing in the top three and never losing a lap. Along with Gilmore/Wiggins, the Swiss were the most consistent team over the course of the evening and thus finished on top of the standings when all was said and done. With two nights to go, it seems to be a race between the top three teams, with Gilmore and Wiggins looking good for a late charge.
