Melville takes victory

The Seymour Cycles sponsored "Chook" race is a feature event on the BSCC calendar. The 45km event was raced on the Kobyboyn road-Blue Top Hill circuit, starting and finishing at Glen and Kellie Christensen's in Highlands Rd.

Out of the 20 that started, limit riders Murray Thompson and Lorraine Burgess led the race off with Carl Simmons, Allan Adams and Silas Fisher being the chasers from the scratch mark. The Blue Top climb sorted the riders, with Dave Rigby going clear and looking the likely winner, only to puncture and lose all chance.

Rhys Melville took the lead and turned for the eight kilometre downhill run with a 45sec lead. Shayne Kirby, Brett Loney, Michael Thomson, Warren Osborne and Jeff Hibberd were chasing hard, but just failed to catch Melville, who hung on for a great win.

In the sprint for the placings Brett Loney was second from Shayne Kirby in third place. Silas Fisher was the fastest rider, recording 1hr 10min for the 45km.
