The crisp, foggy air wasn't enough to keep a few of the Riverland Cycling Club regulars away. Gordon Lawton started off-limit with John Dalzell, a visiting rider from Loxton, 3.30 minutes behind him. It wasn't long before Dalzell caught Lawton but unfortunately luck wasn't on his side puncturing six kilometres into the race.

Angelo Ylia and John Eshman attempted to warm up in their 17 minute interval but came back with hands like ice. Just minutes after their departure, Peter Weston made a solo launch to try and catch the field; he had a buffer of approximately 12 minutes over the chopping block riders of Angus Boase and Mick Gray. The scratch duo being Lee Stevens and Matthew Benson, would need to average around 37 km/h to catch Lawton who had a 34.5 minute head start. The final result saw Lawton cross the line 1.40 minutes ahead of Benson and Stevens. Gray completed the 50 km handicap event in fourth place followed by the warm but brightly coloured windsock, other wise known as Eshman.

Visibility may have been poor first thing but as the fog cleared the sun could finally burst through and gave us all some much needed warmth.
