An extremely tough mountain stage welcomes the riders to the Principality of Asturias. There are two third category climbs, three first category climbs and one hors category climb to negotiate. The first major obstacle is the Puerto de Connio, followed by the Rañadoiro, Cerredo and the hors category San Lorenzo with nine kilometres of climbing at an average of nine percent. The stage finishes with the climb to Cobertoria with nine kilometres of climbing at an average of 8.5 percent. Any riders with GC ambitions will need to be strong today.
