Germany's Philipp Walsleben took the win in the first round of the under-23 men's World Cup under sunny skies in Tabor, Czech Republic. On a dry, fast course, Walsleben overpowered the entire field, with only Aurelian Duval (France) able to offer a challenge. In the end, the German proved too powerful for Duval. Belgian Tom Meeusen came in third ahead of the Czech duo of Ondrej Bambula and Lukas Kloucek.
