Racers faced soft ground and a course layout that favored power riders at Comp Park BMX course in Garner, North Carolina (just outside of Raleigh) on Saturday. A cold front blasted through the night before, bringing a full night's rain and wind. Spectators and 'cross racers were bundled up for the relatively cold weather after a week of unseasonably warm October temperatures in the eighties.

In the men's Pro,1,2 race, a group of five quickly formed and went off the front. Charlie Pendry (Inland Construction Company/Back to Dirt Racing) rode aggressively until rib injuries from Michigan’s JP's Planet Bike Cup forced him out of the top five. Will Black (Catawba Valley Peloton) and Travis Livermon (Kobold - Cannondale) powered off the front with two laps to go and never looked back. Benjamin Miller (Standard Pacific Homes Cycling Team), Andy Applegate (Team Inferno/ Kobold Cannondale), and Matt Rotroff (Inland Construction Company/BTD) completed the rest of the top five spots.

In the women's 1,2,3 race, former Cheerwine road cyclist Beth Frye put the pressure on and immediately pulled away with three other riders: Haley Beann (Rocky Mounts/Izze Racing), Samantha Williams (Sorella Cycling), and Deb Sweeney Whitmore (BMW/Bianchi). With Frye’s pressure continuing throughout the power course, this group quickly split up and Frye was clear for the win. Cara Applegate (BMW/Bianchi) used her exceptional road time trialing skills to pass several riders from the first split and grab third place behind Haley Beann.

Inland Construction Company/Back to Dirt racing was pleased to host the first North Carolina Cyclo-cross Series race at its new Comp Park BMX venue, along with race sponsors Bonitz Flooring, Dr. Steve Andreaus, DDS, PA, Frank’s Cyclery, Marbles Kids Museum, Doug Swanek, CPA and prizes provided by REI and Carolina Brewing Company.
