Los Angeles Cycling Classic - IM

Carson, CA, October 7-8, 2005

Talent pool places on the line for riders

The LA Cycling classic opened Friday at the ADT Event Centre in Carson, CA. The event is a UCI track calendar event as well as the second chance for riders to qualify for the USA Cycling Track Talent Pool, from which riders are selected for major international competitions in the 2005-2006 season.

In the first day of events, Brad Huff was the only rider to meet the USA Cycling Track talent pool time standard by winning the men's 4km pursuit in a time of 4:36.7. Earlier this year, Huff won the elite men's title at the 2005 USPRO Criterium Championships, the individual pursuit title at the USA Cycling Elite Track National Championship, as well as a bronze medal in the men's individual pursuit at the Pan American Championships.

Christian Stahl just missed the time standard in the Flying 200m by .017 seconds. He won the event in 10.607 seconds.

The LA Cycling Classic is also an event for Paralympic cyclists to qualify for national or emerging status; however, none of the competitors at this year's classic were competing for the required time standard. Competition concludes Saturday.
