Irish World's selection time trial

Images by Shane Stokes/irishcycling.com

  • Irish Time Trial champion David O'Loughlin (Ofoto Lombardi Sports) warming up before the start.
  • Kate Rudd (Orwell Wheelers) in the final moments before her time trial
  • Siobhan Jacobs (Usher IRC) waits for the off, while in the background Louise Moriarty (Dublin Skip) is next to go
  • Jacobs takes off while behind, race starter Liam Keenan does some impromptu stretching
  • Moriarty readies herself for 20 kilometres of flat out effort
  • Focus is everything
  • Northern CC's Trudy Brown is next to go....
  • ....and then 2001 world rowing champion Sinead Jennings
  • Jennings dabbled in triathlon before concentrating her energies on rowing.
  • Jennings shows determination from the very start
  • A bottle before the battle; Phoenix CC's Cheryl Fisher before her ride
  • Autumnal skies in Ireland, but the day was mild
  • Liam Walker holds up Aileen Roche before the start of her time trial. She is the wife of former professional Laurence Roche, brother of Stephen
  • Some last minute stretching for Irish Time Trial champion David O'Loughlin. First the quads...
  • ..and then the hamstrings
  • O'Loughlin was surprisingly relaxed, considering what was at stake
  • The Mayo rider had believed his place at the worlds was guaranteed after his gold medal ride this summer
  • He certainly had his race face on once the watch started
  • Former FBD Milk Rás winner Andy Roche (Maestro Nella) was also chasing that place
  • Nice helmet there!
  • John Wall (North Kildare CC) in those last few quiet seconds
  • Then you just gotta let it rip...
  • Simon Coughlan (Donamon Dynamos) gets some more liquids on board
  • Looks like there was a bit of a tug of war before he got away
  • Trudy Brown had a fine tuck position, but was no match for Jennings
  • And neither was Cheryl Fisher, who took third on the day
  • Aileen Roche finishes her race
  • David O'Loughlin was hoping to book his place on the Irish team for the Hamilton worlds. However he was destined to finish a disappointed second
  • Andrew Roche was also a little off the pace, taking third in the men's 40 kilometre test
  • Kate Rudd finishes her effort, placing a disappointed seventh on the day
  • Siobhan Jacobs ended up second
  • McCann looked fast from the first second of his ride
  • Former double road race champion David McCann chose to wear his Ireland skinsuit, rather than the Team Endurasport issue.
  • Paul Healion (North Kildare CC) was looking for a good ride
  • Tommy Evans (Totalcycling.com) was also expected to shine, after a fine 19.23 ten mile time trial in recent days. He was notably relaxed here...
  • ....But soon got his don't-mess-with-me expression on.
  • Evans gets his ride underway, but was frustrated by the effects of a lingering knee problem
  • Sinead Jennings, 2001 world rowing champion, booked her place for the cycling worlds with this fine ride.
  • While Louise Moriarty was fifth
  • David McCann was fired up, speeding around the tough course to take the victory and so ensure his ride in Canada
  • Paul Healion was fourth, three and a half minutes down. He rode well in the B worlds track championships earlier in the year, but wasn't on top form

  • Allan Armstrong came from nowhere to win the Men's 35 -39 and post the 2nd fastest men's time (0:44:38) of the day.
  • Julia Whiteside, new woman's open state champion, came in 3 minutes behind Jeannie Longo.
  • Geoffrey Rapoport dominated the men's open category. A good day for the Minute Maid/Dasani team.
  • Jeannie Longo beat her closest competitor in the woman's open division by 3 minutes (0:46:04), but since she is not a resident of California she was not given the title of state champion.
  • Allan Armstrong crossing the line to win the 35-39 men's category.
