Day 3 - September 13
Day three decides omnium titles
The final day of racing at the Velodrome in Colorado Springs saw a battle for supremacy between Colorado State University and Marian College. Smooth team performances from Marian end up as the deciding factor.
The men's individual omnium was fought down to the wire, with winner Dan Lionberg (Colorado State University) only emerging after a gruelling 30 kilometre points race which proved too much for sprinter David Espinoza (Penn State).
Lionberg managed to stay on top of a fast start in the 3km time trial to seal victory ahead of David Williams (Marian College). Lionberg was forced to work for his overall victory as speedster Espinoza won both the match sprints and kilometre time trial in impressive fashion. Espinoza looked like he might have the competition sealed, however, Lionberg proved that altitude wasn't a factor for him finishing fourth in the points race to gain enough of a buffer over Espinoza.
Carla Swart (Lees MacRae College) cruised around the track to add another national championship to go with the road title she won in Fort Collins earlier this year. Swart proved that she is not only an endurance rider, winning the match sprint competition with style. Swart's only secondary placing came in the points race where she finished second to a strong Sinead Miller (Marian College).
