This year's track world cup kicks off a busy season for most of track cycling's big names - riders such as Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton will be competing on Moscow's 333.3 metre Krylatskoye velodrome; in 2005-06 the focus for riders in the Commonwealth countries will be qualification for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne next year.

This year's track calendar has been complicated by the Commonwealth Games, with riders spending more time travelling as a result of the revised schedule. Some of the big names in Australian track cycling such as Ryan Bayley and Anna Meares won't be making the trip to Russia, preferring instead to concentrate on commencing their season domestically before focussing on European competition.

The Moscow round will be followed by the Manchester round (December 9-10) and the Los Angeles round (January 20-22) before heading to Sydney on March 3-5. This year's world championships will be in Bordeaux, France on April 13-16.
