Top guns line up at FNWTR

By Paul Craft

FNWTR was blessed with the presence of three of Australia 's fastest men. Ben Kersten, Shane Perkins and Shaun Hopkins, left the 72 riders on the night with open jaws as they witnessed the power and speed of world class athletes doing what they do best.

The three speedsters lined up to do battle in the round two sprint derby. Hoppy launched first coming into the final lap, opening a 5m lead on Perkins with Kersten hard on his wheel. Perkins began closing the gap however in the back straight Kersten had moved onto Perkins' hip effectively boxing him on Hoppy's wheel. Ben then simply overpowered Shaun in the finishing straight to take a surgically precise victory. The awestruck crowd were on their feet showing their appreciation of this world class display.

The Feature race for the night was the FNWTR 1km Div 2 Wheel Race. Geoff Hopkins (softy) starting from scratch looked the goods in the first two laps catching more than half of the field. But they don't call him softy for nothing, as he faded in the 2nd half of the race. At the head of the race young Justin Tomlinson had caught and passed all riders in front and came to the last lap with a healthy lead. Roland Lang left his charge late, as he passed the tiring riders behind Tomlinson. It looked like Roland had timed it right as he was in the hunt for the win. But the youngster (Tomlinson) dug deep and held on by half a wheel to claim a prestigious win.

Stand-out rider for the meet would have to be Canberra 's Chloe Hosking. The Pocket Rocket stands not much taller than her bike but she packs a punch winning 3 out her 5 races. Little Chloe hurtling down the finishing straight with her giant competitors towering over her desperately trying to beat her, was a sight to behold.

Next week's Feature race will be the Australian SportsBook 1km wheel Race Div 3 We have $90 worth of Tour De France Betting Vouchers to present the winner and place getters of this prestigious race. Australian Sportsbook is Australia's most flexible online betting facility. You can see how they do business on www.sportsbook.com.au. Additionally next week there will be the second round of the NSWCF+NSWIS Time Blaster Challenge. The jackpot sits at $50 and the time to beat is 9min 58sec (45.02km/h).

Tip for the week: "you can do your interval training racing at FNWTR"
