Lampre and Gerolsteiner on Wilier Triestina in 2003

Izoard Team Edition

As reported back in our Interbike coverage, both the Lampre and Gerolsteiner teams will be on Wilier Triestina bikes next season. Gianmarco Cilli, the Vice President of Velo Imports, Inc.(US Distributor of Wilier Triestina) contacted Cyclingnews to show off the Izoard Team Edition bike that will be available to the two teams.

The Izoard Team Edition has a Scandium compact geometry frame with a thin layer of carbon fibre wrapped around the top, down and seat tubes. The stars of the two squads will also have the Galibier at their disposal, which is a carbon monocoque frame with an oversized downtube.

Lampre have also picked up the Angelo Nardelli 1951 brand and Asics as clothing sponsors.

Peat and Anne-Caro on 5th Element

Two of the hottest riders on the MTB circuit have recently signed to use the Progressive 5th Element shock for next season. Steve Peat, who rides for Orange, and Anne Caroline Chausson, who recently signed to Commencal, will use the shocks exclusively in both Downhill and Four-Cross.

The 5th Element shock uses five differently adjustable settings to allow accurate tuning for each rider, while the speed sensitive internal valving minimises suspension bob.

Suspension guru Tim Flooks who runs the UK's TF Tuned Shox will be providing set-up and service for European races, while Progressive will provide support for races inside the United States. "I am stoked to be riding the 5th and working with Tim again. We go back a long ways and he knows how I like my bikes set up," said Steve Peat.

Burley introduces two high end steel road bikes

Steel is real man!

Burley Design Cooperative, a US worker-owned cooperative with 90 members manufacturing bicycle trailers and tandems, is to make its 2003 road bike debut with two high-end steel road bikes. Named after two popular rides in Eugene, Oregon, the Wolf Creek comes fitted with Shimano Dura Ace components while the Fox Hollow is specced with Shimano Ultregra.

The frames are manufactured from double-butted, heat-treated, air-hardened True Temper OX Platinum tubing and use straight chain stays and S bend seat stays. Machined head tubes, Breezer dropouts and a powder coat finish round out the picture.

"Many of us at Burley ride road bikes and we wanted our own classic steel," Todd Bischoff, Bicycle Product Manager, said about Burley's entrance into the high-end road bicycle market. The bikes are available in 50cm to 62cm sizes and are priced at US$2,999 for the Wolf Creek and $1,899 for the Fox Hollow.

Further to the news that Maxxis has entered road racing in a big way, Maxxis International has announced that they will be the title sponsor of the 2003 Maxxis Upstate New York Cycling Cup, a season-long points competition in a "World Cup" style format for the Upstate New York and Ontario Canada regions. The Maxxis Upstate New York Cycling Cup will be the premier international amateur cycling competition in North America next season. The competition consists of two series, a "Spring Classics" series and a "Summer Series".

Maxxis is also sponsoring the Maxxis-SpokePost.com Cycling Team (formerly Chris' Cookies), an elite amateur cycling team based in Upstate New York.
