Part 4 - Oct 5-8: British Products

By Ben Atkins in London, United Kingdom

Torq

Performance Energy product makers Torq have a lot of new lines for 2007. Its highly acclaimed unflavoured Torq Energy powder is now available in four natural fruit flavours: Natural Orange, Natural Lemon, Natural Lime & Lemon, and Natural Grapefruit.

A completely new product for the year is Torq Recovery. Containing Ribose sugar, HMB (beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate) and Glutamine, Torq feel that it now has the ultimate recovery product. It comes in two rather pleasing flavours: Chocolate Orange and Banana & Mango.

Torq products are made without using colours, artificial sweeteners or preservatives.

USE

Sussex based component manufacturers USE are very proud of its new products for 2007.

The TULA Aero system immediately jumps out as different to all other integrated time trial bar systems due to its horizontal aero brake levers. These levers, USE claims, can save up to 15 Watts (according to its own Computational Fluid Dynamics and testing at Manchester Velodrome) which can be the difference between winning and losing. It has been tested to victory by British Champion time triallist Michael Hutchinson and is apparently being investigated by teams and riders in the ProTour.

USE's new Race stem is similar in look to its old Atom stem, the major difference being the steerer clamp. The slot in the rear is angled slightly in order to spread the load and so put less pressure on the carbon tubes.

Hope Technologies

Unveiled products from Hope include their new Pro III hubs - for either road or cross country use. It also has a new range of seatposts with its own design CNC'd aluminium head, available in carbon fibre or 2014 T6 aluminium.

What Hope is most proud of though is changes to its range of disc brakes. There are improvements made in the whole range, including the shape of the levers and discs. The big thing this year though is their new 'Freeride' brake system - which is a two piston calliper system, featuring a totally re-designed lever. Apparently, the new vented rotor stays 15% cooler than standard ones. Hope thinks this is the hottest brake of the year! (which kind of contradicts the cool claim, but I'm sure you know what it means!)
