Interbike 2003Las Vegas, USA, October 10-14, 2003Interbike: Full Speed Ahead CaptainBy Tim Maloney Super HoopsFull Speed Ahead's Ric Hjertberg showed Cyclingnews their new RD-800 carbon fibre wheel set, available in both clincher and an all-new carbon clincher rim version. "To our unique Discus 3 flange hub, we've added a new CarbonSilk carbon fibre clincher rim. Inside the carbon fibre rim, FSA has added special spoke reinforcement inserts at each spoke hole, reinforced by six lightweight, high-strength PBO hoops to complete the structure. If you cut it away, the CarbonSilk rim looks like a boat hull." Available in January 2004, FSA's RD-800 carbon clinchers have 18 spokes front and rear and reportedly weigh 1.2kg per pair. RRP will be US$1100 per pair. FSA also showed Cyclingnews Vision's new aero brake lever, available in January 2004. Code named "Tyler", these 80 gram per pair levers have been used by Tyler Hamilton for the last two seasons on the FSA sponsored CSC team. Smiling FacesBoth Alesandro Petacchi (left) and Fausto Pinarello (right) are all smiles at the Pinarello stand at Interbike. Fassa Bortolo's Petacchi rode Fausto's bike to an incredible 24 pro wins this season, which has led to record sales for the Treviso, Italy bike builder. PhotosImages by Tim Maloney/Cyclingnews
