The new season is truly upon us here in Boulder, Colorado; today I was out in shorts and a short-sleeve jersey for the first time in months. The ELO classic "blinded by the light" was running through my head as I looked down at some seriously pasty legs, but I wasn't complaining. With TIAA-CREF team camp and our official launch in Denver at Adega less than a month away I'm ready to get things rolling.

Before going any further I should throw out a few thank you's. First, to the Colavita Team that gave me a great home and a lot of fun over the past season. We had some good times that I'll fondly look back upon. Next, to my family, friends and the many sponsors who have all supported me so well through some serious ups and downs. And finally, to Jonathan Vaughters and the whole crew at TIAA-CREF for the opportunity to be part of such a great program for 2005. It didn't take more than a few minutes on the phone with Jonathan this past summer for me to realize that I couldn't ask for a better setup. The opportunities that this program can provide for all of us young riders are unparalleled in the US and I couldn't be more excited to be a part of the team.

"...a lot of the boys are hoping to take things to the next level."

So, what does 2005 hold?

After our camp, just down the street from home here in Boulder, and team launch in Denver, a small group of us are heading down to Arizona for some warm weather training and a few days of racing to get the legs rolling. After a quick break and some time for training at home we leave for the Pamona Valley Stage Race followed immediately by the Tour of Chile. With the Tour of Georgia as my first target these early races should provide a great series of stepping-stones and the right training stimuli to get the engine firing on all cylinders. By Georgia the season is in full swing; from then on we're pretty much race to race, including most of the US staples and a few important trips over to Europe to round things out.

As far as the team is shaping up, all I can say is to look for some surprises this year. While we are going into the season as a developmental squad, a lot of the boys are hoping to take things to the next level. There is a lot of horsepower in the ranks, that with a bit of direction and motivation is ready to shine. Personally, I'm hoping that I can help share some of the things that I've learned from my older and more experienced teammates in the past and at the same time take advantage of being in more of a leadership role and help the team gain the results we need to develop into an even larger program in the future.

Now it's back to the bike to enjoy the warm spell and log some of the miles that are part of such a critical foundation for later in the season. Hope to see some of you at our team launch on the 15th; if you are able to join us, come on over and say hi. To those who can't make it, enjoy spring as it makes it your way and thanks for the support.
