As Cold Winds Blow, Campagnolo Winter Wear Is Ready For You

By Cyclingnews staff

As the chill winds began to blow and the temperatures dropped this fall, Cyclingnews visited Campagnolo for a look at the Campagnolo 2003 Winter Sportswear collection.

It was a cool, bright fall day with the Colle Berici hills adorned with crisp fall colours just across the Autostrada from Campagnolo World HQ when we met with their communication manager Piero Da Rin to see what the Vicenza, Italy firm had to offer to keep cyclists warm and dry this fall and winter.

Campagnolo has made a few key improvements to our apparel line for winter, said Da Rin. "We've added a new silicon Campagnolo personalized gripper on all jackets, jerseys and bib tights, where you can see the Campagnolo logo through the transparent silicon gripper, plus we've improved the gripper elasticity. And we have a new type of zip protection on all jackets are with special neck protection that keeps the zip off the skin."

"We are very proud of our new C200 Metal light Txn X-S Waterproof Jacket", Da Rin told Cyclingnews, as he showed us this high-tech winter cycling jacket. Campagnolo's C200 is a waterproof jacket with removable insert. "On the outside, this garment has a Light Textran breathable, waterproof and stretchable shell, while inside, we've given the C200 a removable insert with X-Static silver fabric. The C200 has details like a large back pocket, taped seams, and a bottom with a unique Campagnolo silicon gripper and stretchable, reflective piping."

Da Rin suggests that the C200 jacket is mated with Campagnolo's C202 Metal Txn XS Bib tight, which has a unique removable boxer short in X-Static silver fabric. "Each boxer insert has a permanent antimicrobial and thermo regulator, and we have our top level, anatomical 3-layer EPP chamois with ComforTemp inside."

Campagnolo has spent considerable time developing their Enhanced Pad Project (EPP) chamois in both a men and women's version. EPP has three different layers of construction, a concave lower end for better air ventilation, and no uncomfortable central seam. EPP is moulded with high frequency technology, given a permanent hygienic treatment with separation channels for easier movement and is made in micro-fibre with excellent moisture transportation qualities. Add Campagnolo's stretchable and reflective piping and the C202 tight is one of the most sophisticated, comfortable ways to keep the lower extremities warm while cycling know.

If the conditions are not that extreme, check out Campagnolo's interesting C201 Metal X-S Wool long sleeve jersey made in titanium Merino wool. Decidedly non-retro, the C201 Wool jersey keeps its cool via X-Static side panels and the warm, stylish jersey has a half-zip up front and triple back pocket with it's own waterproof storage bag.

Da Rin also pointed out Campagnolo's C203 Metal Txn Waterproof Glove. "We know that this is one of the best gloves on the market after our extensive wear testing," said Da Rin. The C203 glove has a Light Textran breathable, waterproof and stretchable outer shell, while inside, there is a toasty fleece lining with element-blocking waterproof film. Campagnolo uses the same stretchable and reflective piping on this glove and adds to the palm an all important, sturdy silicon gripper. Da Rin explained to Cyclingnews: "We put the same level of technological research and development that result in innovation in our sportswear collections. You can clearly see the difference."
