On Thursday, October 7, Sinclair Imports hosted its now near-legendary Interbike
party inside the pub-brewery at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino. Among the
several hundred guests were top pro riders such as George Hincapie, Levi Leipheimer
and Bobby Julich, and hundreds of their closest friends.
Sinclair also invited many of the visiting company principals from the leading
cycling firms it represents in the North American market, such as Jochim Aerts,
the founder of Belgian bicycle manufacturer Ridley. As previously reported,
Ridley scored a major coup with the bike sponsorship deal for the Davitamon-Lotto
squad in 2005 and the brand is now being distributed in the USA by Sinclair.
Refreshments are served by Monte Carlo cocktail waitresses and sponsors' ice
sculptures are spread around the room, the largest being a Hincapie Sportswear
Ice Bar with duelling Carnac Vodka Red Rave Drink Luge. The barmen would pour
the vodka and mixers down the funnel at the top of the Carnac 'shoes' (ice sculptures)
and into waiting glasses. Meanwhile, cycling videos and paraphernalia were featured
throughout what has become one of Interbike's biggest parties.
