TLI Solway League round 6

Brydekirk, Annan, South West Scotland June 27, 2002

By Dave Moss

The sixth and final race of The League International (TLI) Solway League resulted in a one two three for the Andersons Racing Team who also organised the race.

The handicapping proved close to perfect with all groups coming together for the final, wind assisted, six mile run in to the finish. Before that Mick turner went on what looked like a suicide mission as he made a break into the wind at the top of the third climb of repentance hill, however it proved to be the right move as his team mate Bryan Pool also went clear from the chasing scratch group, sprinted past the rest of the vets and novices, and joined him up the road. The Andersons RT pair stayed clear of the now combined pack with Turner taking a popular win.

Simon Mackereth claimed third spot in the sprint, but had already done enough to secure the overall top honours. Neil Withington's fifth spot on the night was just enough to give him the same points as the non finishing Harry Taylor, with a win each the normal tie breaker rules could still not separate them, but Harry got the second place on the overall standing thanks to his third place in round two.
