Kentstown Road Novelty Time trial

Navan, Co. Meath, December 26, 2002

Fun event raises money for St. Vincent de Paul Society

By Tommy Campbell, Irish Independent/Evening Herald/Sunday Independent

The Novelty Time Trial over 9 miles on Christmas Day on the Kentstown Road near Navan was very successful on two fronts.

Scoring a win in the popular time trial were the trio of Henrik Novak, Declan Byrne and Isiac Speirs who completed the circuit in just over 26 minutes. Also on the plus side was the St. Vincent de Paul who were handed a tidy sum of euro on behalf of their charity which would be passed on to the less needy.

Organiser of the event Larry Clarke was very happy, "It was a good dry day with little or no wind. The turn out of 36 teams was exceptional and the majority of them were trios which added greatly to the occasion. Normally I don't get a chance to participate, but this time out and after 32 years of making sure everything is okay, I got a go. Finishing sixth was also a bonus, but happily our team were over 2 minutes and 45 seconds on their estimated time for the mileage. I was very much surprised to Santa Claus and two of his reindeers having a go. Especially after looking after all the girls and boys in various parts of the country. Presumably Mrs. Claus was still cooking the dinner and advised him to drop in on the race," said Larry.
