July 7, 2002

Classic conditions

By Craig McDonald

A mild 16 C and 10- 15 knot winds greeted the riders in this years Adelaide river Classic. Two grades were the order of the day, with the majority of riders putting their hand up for the Open section.

Adelaide rider, Shane Gill decide to show the local riders a thing or two with a comanding performance and win in the open event. Shane is on his way the the masters in Queensland. Alistair Hartely finished second to Shane after motor passing from Darwin (100 km) at 40km per hour before the race started. Simon Donavan from Tassie put in an excellent sprint to pip Phil "Doc " Blum in the final 20 metres. Another impressive ride came from Peter Strong in the Elite Masters . Peter took off at the 30 km mark and there was no catching him. Paul Maher managed to out sprint Chris Harbidge for 2nd.
