Laurent Brochard (Ag2r) has taken home the cheese for the second time in his career, winning the 64th edition of Paris-Cemembert Lepetit in a solo breakaway. Brochard crossed the line in Vimoutiers 38 seconds in front of Carlos Torrent (Paternina), with French champion Nicolas Vogondy (FDJeux.com) winning the bunch sprint for third. With the win, Brochard moved up to second in the Coupe de France standings behind teammate Jaan Kirsipuu.

"Everyone was waiting for someone to make the first move, which I did," said Brochard at the finish. "I didn't think it was won yet, because things could still get organised behind. The main thing today was confirm [my role as favourite]."

He also praised the Ag2r squad, "The team also did a great job. I think the guys are really coming into form, gaining more and more confidence. Not just the leaders, but everyone. That's one of the first things I wanted to see happen when I [joined Ag2R]. Certain guys now are starting to take excellent initiatives."

After an earlier breakaway by Stéphane Barthe (MBK-Oktos-Saint-Quentin) was caught well before the finale, Brochard made his move with 16 km to go on the Côte du Moulin-Neuf. This succeeded in splitting the peloton into a front group of 22 riders, containing Vogondy, Casar (FDJ), Torrent, Garcia-Casas (BigMat), Gaumont (Cofidis), Halgand (Jean Delatour) and Voeckler (Brioches La Boulangère). On the 17% climb of the Mur des Champeaux with 10 km to go, Brochard countered an attack by Vogondy to move into the lead on his own, and he increased his advantage to 38 seconds at the finish.

With his win, Brochard now goes to Liege-Bastogne-Liege on Sunday with more confidence. He was using Paris-Camembert as preparation, but showed that he has good form for Sunday's World Cup.
