Stage 1 - August 30: Granada - Granada (TTT), 7km

A seven-kilometre long team time trial will kick off the 2008 Vuelta. The race will be held in the Technology Park of Health. So if racers overheat here in Southern Spain in August help should be available quickly.

The course is an all-flat affair. Due to the very short course for a team time trial, no major time differences are expected. There will likely only be two interesting questions to be answered. Who will wear the jersey oro, the golden jersey of race leader. And will any crashes occur that will disadvantage any of the race favourites.

It is the second time in a row that Granada is hosting the start. It also marks the third time that the Vuelta kicks off in this Southern Spanish community, after 2005. Otherwise, Granada is a frequent stop of the Vuelta, having finished 18 times here. Another 21 times a stage took off from here, but it seems the start of the entire race in Granada is becoming a regular now.

For the ninth time in its history, the Vuelta kicks off with a team time trial.
