Pozzato wins prologue
Filippo Pozzato (Mapei-Quick Step Espoirs) has won the prologue of the Tour de Normandie, a 5.6 kilometre individual time trial in Mondeville. Pozzato averaged 49.4 km/h to win the race from Lithuanian Raimondas Vilcinskas (Mroz) and Danish rider Jorgen Bo Petersen (Team fakta).
It was 20 year old Pozzato's fourth win of the season. "During the reconnaissance in the morning I noticed that the false flat section after the first passage would be the key point of the race," he said. "Therefore, I rode the first kilometre of ascent at a regular pace enabling me to give my all during the following section and launch myself to the finish line."
"I am really very happy. Last Wednesday at the Nokere-Koerse I was part of a long breakaway but without success. I didn't leave anything to chance today and this is how I was able to win the race".
The first road stage takes place tomorrow, 181 kilometres from Lisieux to Forges-Les-Eaux.
