Henderson too strong for Yates

As expected the A grade race exploded out of the blocks. As soon as the lead bike pulled away the sprint began for the best position into the first corner. This tight left hand corner followed by a right hand switch was to cause some consternation in the bunch and several riders misjudged it during the course of the evening.

With the field now well strung out after only 500m the attacks began to come. The main antagonist was Matt Yates who very quickly went clear with Matt Gilbert. They opened up a handy lead on the field with Jeremy Yates shutting down any dangerous moves.

Approaching the half way mark Greg Henderson put in a massive acceleration and went clear of the bunch. His jump was so clean that no one even responded. Henderson bridged to Yates just as Gilbert popped and went back to the main bunch. There were plenty of attacks within the bunch with Ryan Hoogenberg, Bryce Shapley and Richard Bowker all trying their luck. However, none of these riders could get away without the ever-present Jeremy Yates who was content to sit and protect his brother's advantage.

In the final sprint Henderson had too much gas for Yates, while behind a late break by Jonathan Atkinson saw him hold off the fast finishing bunch for third. The bunch sprint was won by Richard Bowker, who recovered well after almost losing it coming into the last corner and taking.
