Midweek Cycle Club

Toronto, June 14, 2006

Conditions were perfect for the almost 90 riders that turned out for Midweek's weekly Tuesday Night double header. This week saw a fast and aggressive early race, as many riders tried to have a go, but it was Madonna Wheelers' Dan Thompson who took the honours. Classy Pavan seniors Ben Beneditz and Gary Hirsh also found spots in the top five.

The late race was extended to 70 laps for riders who requested longer training miles in preparation for the upcoming National Championships, but that didn prevent the fireworks from starting from the gun, and and early move of five was made off the front with La Bicicletta's Merrill Collins and Jet Fuel's Rod McEwen driving the pace.

When the move was reeled in, La Bicicletta's Chris Atkins ("the Big Ugly") would counter with teenage phenom Damian Kurzawinski (ZM Cycling Club). DK, is he is known would pull through to take the first prime as the duo chose to keep the hammer down.

In the closing laps the sprinter's teams drove the pace to force a field sprint. In the final dash for the line, the rider with the most Midweek wins to his name, "the Professor", Heath Cockburn (La Bicicletta) came through once again, while former National Criterium Champion Gerard Yates took second the tight sprint. The second half of La Bicicletta's sprinting duo, Chris Atkins took third, having already taken home a prime earlier in the night.

As always additions and corrections to the results are welcome.

Thanks to Craig Fagan and Dan Rothnie for setup and takedown.
