The Loxton Traders Trophy race was held on Sunday with an impressive number of nominations. Regular race contenders competed along with riders making their return to the local racing scene; including John Dalzell, Claire Treilibs our talented junior, Matthew Benson and visiting rider Ben Kaethner.

Gordon Lawton returned to his off-limit handicap, 15-minutes ahead of Ruth Strout and Glen O'Brien. Angelo Ylia and John Dalzell had 1.5-minutes to bridge to the pair in front but had the same advantage over Peter Weston & Peter Evans. Claire Treilibs and Ben Kaethner had 44 kilometres to regain Lawton's 22-minute advantage whilst Chopping Block rider, Chris Stevens would have a further 2-minutes. Scratchman, Angus Boase was set the task of chasing down the field in front solo, trying to extend his 3-minute buffer to the minus scratch pair of Lee Stevens and Matthew Benson, leaving the line at the 29-minute mark.

Blustery conditions in the first lap tested the riders and by Habel Road groups were within seconds of each other. Lawton entered the second lap out in front but there was a chasing bunch forming behind ready to reel him in. Benson was on the charge, dropping L. Stevens, who later withdrew, in the first lap. The close of lap one saw Weston, Ylia, Evans and Dalzell cross ahead of C. Stevens and the formidable force of Boase and Benson.

Benson continued his strong form from the Junior Nationals with a convincing win over the remaining field, taking out the Loxton Traders Trophy Race as well as trophy for the fastest time of 1:13'22". Ylia carried on his successful performance from last week by claiming second place ahead of Evans and Kaethner. Weston claimed fifth place ahead of Boase, followed by Strout in seventh. O'Brien, C. Stevens, Dalzell, Treilibs and Lawton rounded out the competition for the 2007 Loxton Traders Handicap event.
