Peel District Cycling Club

Race 7, Casuarina Handicap Race - Saturday, June 23, 2007

An in-form Russell Fryer scored back-to-back wins in the Peel Cycling Club event. The inclement weather experienced across the region saw only seven intrepid souls brave the elements in a reduced race format.

Nevertheless the handicap event delivered an exciting finish with all finishers in the home straight. Fryer, of a three minute mark, had enough petrol in the tank to slip past Craig Johns meters from the line to take the honours. Johns, under immense pressure, just held off a last minute lunge for the line by Paul Slocombe for second place. Phil Diesel, off scratch, arrived a minute further back to claim fourth and also record the fastest time of the day.

Phil Edwards was the final finisher in fifth place and pleased to get shelter from the rain. Earlier Raymond Loly's day was over after puncturing on lap three and Ryan Willmot retired after feeling the effects of a heavy training schedule.
