West Tamar Open

Tasmania, April 29, 2006

Report by David Oliver

Hobart cyclist Chris Wilding has continued his great start to the road season, taking victory in the West Tamar Open at Exeter.

Wilding was too quick in the bunch sprint to end the 60km race, with the major climbs through Flowery Gully failing to break the field up, and scored a comfortable win over fellow Hobart rider Daniel Furmston, with Devonport's Jarrod Harmon taking third.

Kate Warren was too good in the Women's race, defeating Grace Sulzberger in a sprint finish, with Laura McCaughey finishing third.

Dylan Forbes showed the B Grade Men's field a clean pair of wheels, breaking away early and building a big lead to take a convincing win. Simon Brown won the bunch sprint to take second ahead of Clay Murfett. In junior racing Devonport twins Tim and John Taylor scored a family quinella, with Tim scoring a big win in the 40km under 17 event, with Ben Grenda taking fastest time.

Cameron Burrows, son of Tasmanian cycling legend Craig scored a big win in his first ever race in the 20km under 15 event, with Brodey Baker finishing second and national champion Luke Ockerby taking third and fastest time.
