Russell Keeps the Pressure on

James Russell has continued his winning style taking his second victory in as many weeks. He took out first in A Grade in the Memorial Day scratch races staged on a circuit course around Blewitt Springs and Douglas Gully in perfect riding conditions this weekend. His late charge on John Giles as the leading club rider continues with his fifth victory for the year making him the rider with the most wins this year with the club. He now has eight major victories just four behind leader John Giles. The two took off the front of A grade on the third lap leaving the peloton to fight it out for third. John Zoanetti led home the rest of the grade to claim his fourth major result this year.

In B grade Mike Ellaway returned to the winners list for the first time this year. This was his six victory with the club since 2000. Ellaway led home William Hrynko and Con Bastiras. Hrynko is having a very good season claiming his fifth major result that includes a silver medal in the club road race championship and a bronze medal in the club time trials.

C grade was another impressive result to Chris Mavrangelos chalking up his third victory for the year and his fifth major result. He took the honours on the line from Neal Teasdale and Aaron Shackleford. Teasdale has come so close on four occasions this year this being his fourth second place and fifth major result. His other place was a win in the Dean Stephens event in June. Shackleford claimed his first major result with the club taking third.

Brian Dey, Robert Freak and David Cox took the honours in D grade. Dey has joined the 'Russell' bandwagon taking a victory again after winning E grade in the TASC communications event last weekend. Freak also made it two in a row taking a third last week and a second today.

In E grade Peter Blackburn continued his come back from serious injury with an inspiring win to take his first victory for the year. He led home improver Jim McCluskey now with three major results this year and Joe Skibinski who also took his third result for the year
