Hay Street Chiropractic Women's Criterium Series #2/WA Women's Criterium Championship

Technology Park, Bentley, November 30, 2003

Midland Cycle Club hosted round two of the Hay Street Chiropractic Women's Criterium Series at their club criterium circuit in Technology Park, Bentley. This circuit has gone unused for quite sometime so there were plenty of women that had never raced here before.

As with round one, attacks were present right off the start line. There were a few small breaks that stayed away for a while, but all of them eventually came back to the main group. With only a few laps to go, U19 rider Amy Kirk made the same move she was involved with in round one, only this time it was by herself. Holding off the field, Amy crossed the finish line for a convincing win, taking over as series leader and also becoming the WA Criterium Champion. Hayley Rutherford lead the bunch home for second place, closely followed by Rachel Sherborne, Katrina Purcell and Sharon Suckling.

Remaining races

  • Race 4 & Series Final: Victoria Park, January 4, 2004, presented by Perth Criterium Series

  • Hayley Rutherford finished second today, with today's result ending a successful week for Hayley after breaking the course record at the Kings Park time trial the previous Tuesday. Rutherford is the fiancee of Panaria professional Graeme Brown.
  • Hayley Rutherford's ALAN bike, a big name from the 70s when they equipped the Polish team along with many others with their innovative bonded aluminium frames, and they are still a force on the Italian domestic market today. Hayley rides for the Italian Michela Fanini team in 2004.
  • Youth over experience - Amy Kirk (WAIS), a happy winner and West Australian Criterium Champion.
  • WAIS (Western Australian Institute of Sport) coach Darryl Benson.
