West Tamar Tour

Beaconsfield, July 26, 2003

By Matthew Conn

Australian junior representative, Matt Goss managed to hold off his more experienced competition to score a home town win is Saturday's West Tamar road tour. Goss scored two wins in the three stage event and amassed 11 points on his way to defeating Devonport's Gareth Atkins by just two points.

Goss is currently in full training for his October trip with the Australian team to the world road championships in Canada, while Atkins is preparing for his annual assault on the Tattersall's Cup series in Victoria and Tasmania.

A victory by Goss lookd in doubt after the 16 year old only managed to place fifth on the 40km road leg, however he overhauled Atkins to win the next stage and take the tour win with a strong performance in the concluding criterium.

With the first round of the Tattersall's Cup being held tomorrow, Kharne Hammersley, Jason Andersch, Ryan Sullivan and Trevor Innes all put in strong performances in the tour and will be looking to claim some of the bonus money on offer to Tasmanian riders in the series.

The category two event was dominated by Josh Wilson, who claimed the overall title after winning each of the individual road stages. The Tasmanian Criterium title, held as part of the tour, was won by Gareth Atkins with Nathan Clarke in second and Matthew Atkins third.
