Rodriguez sprints to the win, second overall

Serramenti's Jackson Rodriguez took the win in the second stage of the Vuelta Mexico Telmex, besting Canadian Andrew Pinfold (OUCH) and Joaquin Sobrino (Burgos Monumental) after a long and draining 205-kilometre stage to Puebla. Juan Pablo Magallanes (Mexico) maintained his lead in the overall classification, but Rodriguez moved into second place after Francesco Rivera (Amica Chips) lost contact with the lead group on the stage.
The day was once again marred by several crashes, with a whopping 17 riders being taken out of the race with injury. The peloton was further reduced with the disqualification of Victor Alfons Huerta (Region 3 Estado) for hanging onto the team car. Early in the stage several riders chose the safer place to be - off the front of the bunch: defending champion Glen Chadwick (Rock Racing), Freddy Parra (Tecos), Peter Stetina (US National Team), Simon Ortega (Arenas Tlaxcala), Bradley White (OUCH), Antonio Aldape (Mexico) and Chris Jones (Team Type 1) were among the escapees who contested four KOM's and four intermediate sprints on the marathon stage.
The break fell apart on the final climb with 15km to go, and after strong pace-setting from the Tecos team on the climb, only some 50 riders were left in the front group to contest the final sprint. Rodriguez took the win from the group which contained several pre-race favorites such as Gilberto Simoni (Serramenti), Floyd Landis (OUCH) and Tyler Hamilton (Rock Racing).
