Day 1 - June 26: Elite men time trial, 40km

Astana 1-2-3 on Kazakhstan podium

Team Astana took the complete podium of the national championships time trial, led by 35 year-old Andrey Mizourov. He took the gold medal in his hometown of Karaganda ahead of team-mates Andrey Zeits and Roman Kireyev. Last year's winner Alexandr Dymovskikh finished fifth.

It was the seventh medal and second gold (2002) for Mizourov in the event. "This victory is extra special since it was held in my birth place Karaganda," noted Mizourov in a team press release. "It's a tremendous honour to wear the national jersey of my country, Kazakhstan, which has given so much to the sport of cycling and our nation. Zeits and Kireyev are testaments to this; the future of cycling in Kazakhstan is very bright." (GB)
